Asian men's worker
Ascar’s main role with West London Gay Men’s Project is as Asian Men’s Worker. He provides information and advice on sexual health and helps guys to get the kind of support that they need. Ascar works at various locations including cruising grounds, bars, and clubs such as Kali, Urban Desi and Habibi.
Ascar has a customer service background and describes himself as a ‘people person’. He enjoys the varied role, and the blend of office and face to face work. Because of his own life experiences and challenges, he can relate to other Asian guys including married men and men with children. Ascar says ‘I know for some men it’s very difficult for them to seek advice and find someone they can trust. I feel can help them with the various issues they might be facing.’
Ascar is also interested in the experiences of older gay and bisexual men, men who don’t often go to ‘gay’ venues, and men who have religious beliefs.
