A risk of having unprotected sex is contracting HIV. You can have an HIV test at the GU clinic and experienced staff can guide you through the process of having the test and receiving the result.
If the result is positive then you are not alone and there are lots of organisations that can support you. Check out our links page for details.
The lining of your arse is very fragile and absorbent so it's a good idea to take care of it when you're having sex. Using condoms is the best way to reduce the risk of you contracting HIV and STIs. Making sure you use plenty of water-based lube will help prevent the condom from breaking and make sex a more pleasurable, not painful experience.
If you are sharing sex toys such as dildos, make sure that you put a new condom on it before it goes in your arse. This will help reduce the risk of you contracting HIV and STIs.
As with your dick, it's good to check your arse on a regular basis (at least once a month) to see if there is any unusual discharge, lumps, warts, rash, pain or discomfort.
If you find any of these then it's a good idea to get whatever it is checked out at your local GU clinic. There may not be any symptoms so it's a good idea to have a check up anyway, about every 6 months. Check out our GU clinic page for appointment and contact details.
If you are unsure about anything and want to discuss things further then call our helpline for a confidential chat.
